Hello from Retro-On-Sea!
Only a few days left now before I shut my online website shop. I don't really know where the last few weeks have gone. Thank you once again for all of your orders.
I have added a few extra summery scarves etc. to the website at some amazing prices. Take a look! All of these items will make great Christmas gifts... what could be easier than posting a scarf to someone that you love?
Just to confirm again, I will be keeping my Retro-On-Sea domain name. I am also going to keep this site for now. We will update it in the coming weeks. There won't be the shop, but you will still have access to these blogs and any new ones that I will enjoy adding!
Although the shop is closing, I would really love to keep in touch with you all through the blog. I have built up such a great community of customers and friends through my shop over the years. It would be a real shame to lose touch with you all! I may one day have another project which I can share with you!
I have so enjoyed seeing the business grow in those early years and we have had some great times. Vintage stalls, wonderful sellers and wholesalers. We were very proud to have articles in the local papers, on the Homes & Antiques Magazine website and Somerset Life magazine.
My husband Michael and I have enjoyed sourcing vintage stock from so many different places and have made friends with fellow enthusiasts. With 6.30 am starts, loading and unloading! Our eldest son William helped me so much by looking after and serving in the shop while I was experiencing my worst phase of anxiety. Your kindness Will, during that time, was just amazing. He was joined by the everso lovely Jill Hunt of 'Pick & Mix Vintage' who again worked in the shop every week during that difficult time for me. You were all saints!
Our other son Peter has been responsible for the most recent website design. His 'artistic eye' and wealth of ideas will take him to some interesting places in the days ahead...I feel sure of it! He is also my IT guru!
My thanks also go to Amanda Jane Hunt of 'Shabby Chick' who in the very early days, provided me with seaside stock! We both share an immense love of the seaside and seaside retro items.
I should also mention Zoe Jenkins for providing the most beautiful vintage dresses for the shop. All made by hand! They were best sellers. Finally Heather & Baz Morgan for bringing back the most wonderful goodies from France. French enamel jugs, candlestick holders ... all sorts!
There are countless other people I have met along the way and many will remain friends for life. You know who you all are.
My advice to anyone thinking of setting up a small business... just do it!
Working for yourself is hard work and can at times be very stressful, but the good things weigh out the bad. Do your homework and be organised.
Most of all - do something that you love! Your enthusiasm for whatever it is will shine through...every time!
I have had so much feedback from customers, telling me where their purchases end up. In beach huts, seaside homes .. a pilot boat, a dutch barge, a bow-topped caravan. You name it..these beautiful vintage items have often had a second life, all around the UK and beyond.
So the shop door closes at 5pm this Friday 13th November '20. In the meantime do take advantages of some great offers in the shop. When they are gone, they are gone!
We will get through the bad times and we must be excited about the future. I am sure that it holds some amazing times for us all!
Love to you all, Ros xx
